Exploring Neighborhoods - South Kensington

We had a free Sunday the other weekend, and got back to our Sunday tradition - brunch in a new neighborhood. Our neighborhood destination was South Kensington.

Our temporary housing was located in South Kensington, so Shane experienced living in the neighborhood for two weeks. However, I only lived in the neighborhood for a two and half days, one whole day of which I slept, so we thought it would be fun to go back and explore.

South Kensington, and the surrounding neighborhoods, house some of the most exclusive real estate in London and has become the home of many wealthy French, American and Middle-Eastern expatriates. South Kensington is also home to a handful of museums: Natural History Museum, Victoria & Albert Museum, and the Science Museum. We passed on going to any of the museums, mostly because the sun was out and we had to take advantage, but we plan to make our way back eventually.

We brunched at Apero which is located in the cellar of The Ampersand Hotel. The best part about the brunch was the dessert menu - the toffee banana bread and banana sorbet was our favorite dish!

South Kensington is one of the those idyllic London neighborhoods - the neighborhoods I love!

On our stroll through the area, we discovered a new favorite street to walk along - Kensington Palace Gardens. The street is located directly behind Kensington Palace and is home to several embassies. What makes the street truly unique is that it is private and thus very quiet. The moment that you turn on the street and pass through the gates, you forget that there is buzzing taxi's and double-decker buses right around the corner. Photo's weren't allowed on the street and the presence of guards with guns (rare in London) and CCTV were enough for us not to risk it!
