We met Emily & Patrick at their hotel in Dublin at 9am on Friday morning. The plan was to pick-up our rental car and hit the road. We arrived at the rental car location around 9:30am which happened to be when everyone else who was planning on renting a car for the day also arrived. It took 2 hours before we finally received our a Nissan Macro. Lucky for me, there was nail salon next door, so I popped in and got a manicure.
Kinsale is a four hour drive from Dublin so we stopped half-way in Kilkenny for lunch and stroll. Even though we were only in Kilkenny for a couple of hours we thoroughly enjoyed the small town.
We arrived in Kinsale, a historic port and fishing town, by late afternoon. We quickly checked-in to our hotel and set-off to explore the narrow streets and colorfully painted shops. We grabbed dinner and then set-off to find some Irish music. The first pub we popped in had traditional Irish music but was a bit too crowded and too smokey for our crew. We wandered to another spot that advertised live music only to discover that it was a locals joint and the live music was geared toward the locals - American 90's pop music. While we might of preferred some Irish tunes, the people watching was superb. We headed back to our B&B which conveniently had a pub in the bottom for Shane & Patrick to imbibe until the early hours of the morning.
The next morning, we had an Irish Breakfast in the B&B before meeting up with Don for a historical walking tour of Kinsale in a lovely Irish mist. After the tour, we were all due for another coffee and did some light shopping in the town. Our tour guide recommended that when the mist lifted, to head to the Charles Fort and get a birds eye view of Kinsale. We took him up on his recommendation and were sure glad we did - the fort and the view were spectacular. We grabbed a quick bite at a pub near the fort and then were off to County Kerry!
